An Evening of Music Not to be Missed

An Evening of World Class Piano, Viola, and Voice at Padma Resort Legian on Sunday, February 4, 2018
The Padma Resorts in Bali continuing to champion classical music performance with their first concert of the New Year at the Padma Resort Legian on Sunday, February 4, 2018.

In a concert titled “And the World, Opening . . .” - an extensive program will be presented of compositions by Giacomo Puccini, J.S. Bach, Ananda Sukarlan, Fauzie Wiriadisastra, Johann Hummel, Charles Gounod, Gioachino Rossini, Deemer, Mary Kouyoumdjian, and Christian Ellenwood.

Performing on the evening will be:

Airin Efferin – Piano

Born in Bandung, West Java, Airin’s precocious keyboard abilities earned her a scholarship in piano performance studies under Dr. Hyesook Kim at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree she continued her studies earning a Master of Music degree mentored by Dr. Robert Smith.

During her Michigan sojourn, Airin presented 2 solo recitals and performed with several chamber music groups in Michigan, Texas and her hometown of Bandung, West Java.

Michael Hall – Viola

From his base in Chicago, Illinois, Michael Hall undertakes teaching and performance assignments in Asia, Europe and the United States. Described as “utterly masterful” by New Music Connoisseur and possessing “superb technique” by Chamber Music Today, he has performed solo at the Chicago Orchestra Hall and toured in Vienna, Udine and Tolmezzo.

He has also appeared as a featured performer at Thailand International Composition Festival, the Positano Chamber Music Festival in Italy, the Vianden International Chamber Music Festival in Luxembourg and the Composer’s Concordance Series in New York City.

He has also premiered new works in major performances in Minneapolis, Reykjavik, Los Angeles, Bandung, and Chiang Mai.

He has made commercial recordings on the following labels: Delos, Centaur, Acoma, Clarion, Vienna Modern Masters, and Albany Records.

Hall teaches on the faculty of VanderCook College of Music and has served on the faculties of Illinois Wesleyan University, Chicago Academy for the Arts, Guilford College, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra and taught at the University of Chicago. In Indonesia, Hall serves as Director of Education for the Bandung Philharmonic Orchestra.

He holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with other musical degrees from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Ball State University.

Married with two daughters, Hall is an avid sportsman participating in long-distance hikes and the Chicago Marathon.

Regina Handoko – Soprano

Initially studying piano with the Indonesian Music Foundation for 9 years, Regina has also studied harp with Heidi Awuy and Rama Widi.

In pursuit of her vocal career, she has studied with Indonesia’s leading vocal coaches including Joseph Kristanto Pantioso, Catharina W. Leimena, Rukiah Marpaung, Binu D. Sukaman, Renata Liem, and Budi Utomo Prabowo.

Further from her home, Regina Handoko has privately studied voice with
Towako Sato-Schöllhorn in Freiburg, Germany in 2004 and participated in a Master Class with Marianne Dellacasagrande at the Debussy Festival 2012.

She has performed in lead roles in opera and performed on the harp in recitals and concerts.
