Maybank Bali Marathon Earns ‘Bronze Label’ Status from World Athletics

Registration opens February 25th for 9th Maybank Bali Marathon August 30, 2020. The Maybank Bali Marathon will return for its ninth running on Sunday, August 30, 2020, featuring, as in the past, a full Olympic-distance marathon of 42.195 kilometers, a half-marathon of 21.0975 kilometers, and a 10-kilometer “kids’ dash.”

Online registration opens at 12:00 pm on February 25, 2020, and, if past years are any indication, all race slots will sell out in several days.

An internationally recognized event that counts towards qualification in leading marathons around the world, the 9th Maybank Marathon has qualified for a coveted “Bronze Label” Road Race qualification from World Athletics (formerly the International Association of AthleticsFederations –IAAF).

“Bronze Label” status is only awarded to marathon event that fulfill stringent specifications established by World Athletics. These require that distance and route requirements that have been certified by an official course measurer from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), road closure requirements, timing systems, international elite runners’ participation, medical support, media coverage, technical delegates to undertake assessment, comfort and safety standards for runners, and compliance to all marathon regulations as laid out by the World Athletics.

Taswin Zakaria, President Director of Maybank Indonesia said, “Our achievement in obtaining ‘Bronze Label’ from the World Athletics is not only affirming that Maybank Marathon is now recognized as an international standard, but also placing Indonesia as a country that has an international marathon event.”

Along with the World Athletics’ “Bronze Label” status, Maybank Marathon is now included as part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors (WMM) Wanda Age Group World Rankings Marathons, giving Marathon Maybank runners the opportunity to earn rankings and points in accordance with Abbott WMM’s criteria.

To assist runners’ preparation towards the Bali marathon event, Maybank Indonesia will conduct a series of running activities known as the “Road to Maybank Marathon” events over the coming six months. In partnership with medical experts, nutritionists, and running coaches - runners are eligible to attend marathon training and educational classes prior to Race Day. These classes include running clinics and Sunday Morning Runs. Runners may also attend classes to become familiar with how to manage the running of a marathon in order to successfully finish the race before official cut-off time (COT) in each category: 10 kilometers (2 Hours), half-marathon (3.5 hours); and full-marathon (7.0 hours).

“With the Bronze Label, we are committed to continuously improve our race quality in terms of race comfort and safety, in particular improvements over race infrastructure, quality of medical needs in the field, and implementation of You Register, You Run’ to ensure that runners are those who are registered within our database,” said Taswin.

On February 25, 2020, when online registration opens, a number special discounts of 30% are available to Maybank Credit Card Holders and “early bird discounts” of 20% for a very limited number of running slots.

The Maybank Marathon is now a permanent part of the International Sporting Calendar since its launch by launched by Bali Discovery Events as the inaugural operator/creator and Maybank the event sponsor in 2013 as Indonesia’s first marathon. Listed in the official race directory of the Boston Marathon, the Maybank Marathon has received widespread recognition, including being named one of the “remarkable races in the world that one must participate before you die” by The Active; one of “The 52 Best Races on Earth 2016” by Runnersworld; Best Marathon 2016, and the Most Popular Sport Event 2018 by the Venue magazine.
