World Surf League Championship Tour to Come to Bali May 13-14, 2019
Bali will play host to a stop on the World Surf League (WSL) World Champion Tour 2019 to take place on Keramas Beach in Gianyar May 13-24, 2019.
As reported by Beritadewata.com, the commercial director of WSL, Scott Hargreaves, accompanied by the secretary-general of the Indonesian Ocean Surfing Association (PSOI), Tipi Jabrik, met with Bali’s Deputy Governor Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati (Cok Ace) at the Deputy Governor’s office on Monday, March 4, 2019, to outline the international surfing event scheduled for May.
Scott told the deputy-governor that the surfing championship is prestigious with internationally famous surfers from a number of countries epected to attend. The WSL director said he was certain that the coming event will enhance the international reputation of Bali. For this reason, Scott hope the National and Provincial Governments will support the event. Among the supports he requested from the deputy-governor were recommendations of support, local media exposure, and for local leaders to attend the opening ceremony.
Scott and Tipi went on to explain that the surfing event is being held for the fourth time in Bali, with this year’s championship the 4th time following past events in 2008, 2013, and 2018.
Tipi told that Keramas Beach was selected as the location for the WSL World Championship Tour 2019 because the local wave conditions, the supporting infrastructure, and the beach that will be the headquarter for the event.
Cok Ace accompanied by the provincial head of tourism, AA Gede Yuniartha Putra, expressed the province’s appreciation for Bali’s selection as host for the major surfing event.
The deputy-governor said he was confident that the WSL tour will assist Bali in promoting itself as a tourism destination.
