Indonesia’s travel industry has lost another pioneer with the death of Julia Ch. Noordraven in a Kuala Lumpur Hospital on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, where she was being treated for a heart condition.
Julia Ch. Noordraven was 81.
Julia Noordraven established Vista Expess in 1971 becoming one of the earliest purveyors of Inbound tours including Java-Bali overland tours. Later, her agency broadened its scope of work handling shore visits in all parts of Indonesia for visiting cruise ships.
A hard worker with an indefatigable love of her Country, Julia was a popular fixture at international travel trade shows where her encyclopedic knowledge of Indonesia was widely sought after.
Julia Noordraven also established the popular Putri Gunung Resort on the outskirts of Bandung, West Java and a successful transportation company Vista Touristama.
Vista Express and Julia Noordraven were the recipients of numerous awards from the national and regional governments in Indonesia for their contributions to national tourism development.
Her husband, a former Air Force officer, preceded her in death. The Noordravens had two children, a daughter who died in childhood, and a son, Otje, a professional pilot, who survives.
