A 41-year-old Australian who operates a surf school on Bali’s Kuta Beach suffered severe head injuries requiring multiple surgeries and air evacuation to Perth Australia.
Matt Scarff was reportedly “sucker punched” by a stranger outside the Townhouse Club in Seminyak on Friday, November 15, 2013.
Details about the attack remain sketchy, but several accounts tell of how Scarf was trying to assist an intoxicated lady into a taxi to avoid the unwanted advances of another male guest when he was sucker-punched in the face by the man.
Left unconscious from the blow, Scarf underwent emergency surgery in Bali to relieve a blood clot before being flown to Perth where another surgery was performed.
On Friday, November 22, 2013, Scarf remained in critical condition in intensive care in Perth.
In the days following the attack friends and colleagues held fund-raisers to help defray medical costs for Scarf who had no insurance.
Meanwhile, a search for the man, who attacked Scarff, believed to be a black man form Great Britain, is being circulated internationally on social media via Instagram and Facebook where a picture of the assailant is published.
Meanwhile, the family of Scarff has requested privacy for the family.
