Kenyan Runners Win Top Honors in AirAsia Bali Beach Run

Some 1,500 runners from both Indonesia and abroad joined the first AirAsia Bali Beach Run held on Sunday, November 24, 2013 on Kuta Beach.

Two events were held on that date: a 10-kilometer run down Kuta Beach to Petitenget Beach returning along village streets in Kuta before rejoining a the beach at Gado-Gado. The second event covering 5-kilometers was conducted entirely on a beach side route.

Kenyan runners dominated the winners in the 10-kilometer race with Collins Kimosop, Willy Tanui and Dennis Isika sweeping the top three finishers spots.

Collins turned in a winning time of 32:40, followed by Willy Tanui at 33:05 and Dennis Isika 33:52.

A Kenyan finished first in the female category for the 10-kilometer event with Jackline Nzvio turning in a time of 43:45. Second and third places among the ladies were claimed by Indonesian runners Unik Setyo Rini (45:02) and Ni Kadek Ayu Sukarniti (46:53).

Kimosop commented after the race that this was the first race he had followed conducted on a beach. He declared he was happy to win and had undertaken two weeks of special training to prepare for the challenge of running on sand.

In the 5-kilometer category for men an Indonesian runner Wayan Adnyana was first across the line (20:12), followed by a Spanish runner Daniel Martinez Diaz (20:37) and followed in third place by Indonesian Edi Raka (20:51).

Meanwhile in the women’s category Australian Jasmine Boffem won the 5-kilometer distances with a time of 27:18. Second went to Koran Yun Hee Jung (31:19). Third place was secured by Indonesian Kata Rynza Lastinosa (31:20).
