Jetstar has announced a cessation of service to and from Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia.
This decision will spell the end of flight services by the low-cost carrier between Darwin and Bali, Brisbane and Singapore.
Owned by the financially troubled Australian flag carrier QANTAS, Jetstar cited intense competition from other airlines as prompting their decision to cut Darwin services.
Qantas, one week before the Jetstar announcement, announced its decision to cut 1,000 jobs from their payroll over the coming 12 months.
Competition from AirAsia and Silk Air reportedly made it problematic for Jetstar to achieve profitable fare and occupancy levels from Darwin necessitating the closure of the Darwin base.
Meanwhile Jetstar will soon begin direct flights from Adelaide and Auckland (new Zealand) to Bali.
