Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport
welcomed its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner
on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, when a Jetstar flight
from Sydney to Bali touched down in Denpasar.
224 passengers were on board the inaugural service using the state-of-the-art Dreamliner
scheduled to be used on a full-time basis by Jetstar
between the two destinations starting in January.
Jetstar JQ 035/036
landed at 5:50 pm departing on the return leg to Melbourne at 6:58 pm carrying 127 passengers.
The flight heralds a changeover underway by Jetstar to gradually replace its existing fleet of Airbus A330s
with Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
Plans will see four Boeing 787s
in operation by April on its way to operating 14 Dreamliners
by the end of 2015.
The arrival of the Jetstar
flight also provided an opportunity for ground handlers at Bali’s airport to put into practice training underway for nearly a year preparing to meet the special technical and ramp handling requirements to serve a Dreamliner.
