The Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua, in cooperation with the North Sulawesi Institute of Art and Culture is heralding in the New Year with a charity event -“The Enchanting Culture of Minahasa.”
For the first time in Bali, the lavish and unique culture of Minahasa will be showcased with traditional dance and music, and a fashion show featuring the contemporary use of indigenous Minahasa fabrics by well-known Indonesian Fashion Designer Thomas Sigar.
“We are so excited to host this event – ‘The Enchanting Culture of Minahasa” - pioneered by the Intitute Seni Budaya Sulawesi Utara. There will be a fashion show introducing the heritage of Minahasa’s fabrics designed by Thomas Sigar. He is known, not only as a fashion designer and as a fashion consultant, but also as a consultant and observer of Indigenous culture. Additionally, we will also be displaying the unique Kolintang Kawanua Music and Dances accompanied by 'Oeblet Etnik Orchestra,' choreographed by Denny Malik and performed by Denny Malik Company,” said Gary Phair, president of Rotary Club Nusa Dua 2013-2014.
The event will take place at The Conrad Bali Resort and Spa on Sunday, January 12, 2014, with the reception beginning at 6:30 pm. The evening will also include an auction of sponsored hotel rooms, restaurant vouchers and spa packages.
Ticket price is Rp 300.00, - (US$24) per person including entry, pre-function reception and a chance to win door prizes.
During the pre-function cocktail reception fashions and fabrics from Minahasa will be displayed.
Proceeds from the evening will support BaliLife Foundation - a charitable foundation that runs a children’s home near Ungasan that currently houses 20 children, aged 5 to 15 years. Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua has committed itself to providing educational and vocational support to BaliLife.
Rotary Club Bali Nusa Dua was established Chain 1992 as Bali's first English-speaking Rotary Club. Since 1994 the Club has provided over 1,360 cleft palate and cranial facial operations to underprivileged children and young adults in Bali and surrounding islands.
