Negotiations over a six-month period have concluded in the signing of a joint venture agreement in Jakarta on December 18, 2013 between Air Timor and Garuda Indonesia.
Under the agreement Garuda will provide a dedicated aircraft to Air Timor to open up 3 (three) new international routes between Dili and Darwin, Dili and Denpasar, and Denpasar and Christmas Island.
Air Timor will now be finalizing interline agreements for passengers as well as cargo.
Air Timor will be operating a Boeing 737 aircraft fitted with Business and Economy class seating. Subject to government approval, plans are to commence operations before May 2014.
Air Timor currently operates a thrice-weekly Dili - Singapore service utilizing a Silk Air Airbus A319 aircraft. The airline will be operating daily schedules to both Darwin and Denpasar under the new agreement.
Air Timor aims to create a significant increase in tourism from Australia as well as develop new business from Indonesia.
Air Timor is Timor-Leste‘s only airline company.
