The fleet of feeder vans that provide suburban connections to the armada of buses that serve Bali's Trans-Sarbagita Bus System are temporarily out of service pending reappointment in the bidding process now underway by the Provincial Procurement Office (ULP).
Bali Post expects the tendering process to conclude shortly, allowing the feeder buses to resume service in February.
Ketut Adi Pradnyana of the Denpasar Public Transport Office confirmed that the coming contract will be for a full year of service for which Rp. 5 billion (US$400,000) has been earmarked to support the feeder bus line of 56 vans.
In 2014 passengers paying to ride Bali's Trans Sarbagita Service pay Rp. 2,000 per person (US$0.16) while student ride for free.
The Trans-Sarbagita Bus System now averages 1,250 passengers each day, 30% of which are students.
Plans are now under review to add four new routes in 2014:
