The Bali expatriate community was shocked with the news of the death of a popular and long-term American resident Paul Latourell (51) who was brutally murdered at his Denpasar home on Saturday, February 15, 2014.

Latourell’s body was discovered two-days after his death when a domestic worker returned form a weekend off to find the door open and the American’s body in the bedroom.

Stabbed more than 70 times, there were signs of a struggle with blood traces found in both the living and bedroom. Missing from the house were Latourell’s wallet, hand phone and his automobile parked in the buildings carport.

Police traced the stolen vehicle to a location outside Bali where the assailant(s) sold the vehicle. Based on that transaction and other evidence, police have told Radar Bali that they now know the identity of at least one of the men involved in the murder and would soon be making an arrest.

Latourell, originally from Ventura, California, was a well-known community activist involved in fund-raising for a Kuta medical clinic treating HIV/AIDS patients and Bali Peduli - a foundation providing assistance and care to HIV/AIDS patients.

A memorial service for Paul Latourell is scheduled to be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm  at the Kertha Semadi Crematorium on the Bypass in Mumbul (near Nusa Dua) followed by the cremation. Friends and associates are encouraged to attend.

In accordance with the the wishes of the deceased, his ashes will be returned to Ventura, California to be scattered on a hillside location overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
