Batik Air, the premium-class service division of Lion Air, is targeting to carry 7 million passengers in 2015.

Batik Air is confident that the ambitious target can be met with addition of new aircraft to its armada beffore the end of 2014.

As reported by, current plans call for Batik Air to add an Airbus A320 in July of 2014, with a total of six more Airbus A320s to join their fleet before the end of this year.

Batik Air commenced operations on May 3, 2013. Through January of 2014 the airline has carried more than one million passengers.

The CEO of Batik Air, Achmad Lufthie, said the additional aircraft would allow the airline to carry 6-7 million passengers in 2015.

Lufthie, who originally joined Lion Air as its first pilot, said that growth is rapid in premium-class passengers at Batik Air. He said surveys carried out by Lion Air confirm that Indonesian air passengers confirm that the public is seeking more service when they fly. He went on to explain that regulations in place governing Lion Air’s operation as a low-cost airline limit the ability to provide full service to its passengers.

Lufthie said that demand for premium class air travel in eastern Indonesia remains high. Flights operated to Jayapura, Ambon, Kupang and Manado continue to grow in terms of loads and frequencies. He also said there is strong demand for nighttime flights that arrive in the early morning, saying the reception from the public for “red-eye” flights was extraordinary. As a result, Batik Air has plans to double the number of night flights it operates in the current year.

Batik Air is expanding the number of destinations it serves from 10 to 22. Among the new ports-of-call are Banjarmasin, Batam, Gorontalo, Kendari, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Palu, Timika, Tarakan and Solo.

Batik Air also plans to operate between Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali).
