PT Jasa Marga Bali Tol - the managers of Bali's tollway connecting Sanur with Nusa Dua told Bisnis.com that they plan to revise their business model for the 11.7-kilometer long elevated roadway in order to more realistically address current usage of the road, income streams and the continuing popularity of the regular roadway.
Current figures provided by Jasa Marga Bali Tol count an average of 35,000 vehicles using the toll road each day. This figure is only 90% of a targeted 39,000 vehicles put forth when the new road opened in October 2013.
The CEO of Jasa Marga Bali Tol Akhmad Tito Karim (shown) blames the failure to materialize the targeted usage of the roadway on the successful completion of the Dewa Ruci Monument Underpass that has markedly reduced traffic congestion on the Ngurah Rai Bypass Road.
No longer facing the prospect of gridlock on the "old" road connecting Sanur and Denpasar to Nusa Dua and the airport, many motorists are utilizing the toll-free alternative.
Said Tito Karim, "Probably the initial calculations for use of the Bali toll road failed to consider the impact of the Dewi Ruci Underpass."
Going forward PT Jasa Marga Bali Tol will study and re-evaluate their business model including the impact of infrastructure improvements on thw overall use of Bali's pay-for-use highway.
