The State News Agency Antara reports that that the Bali Police Command will deploy 4,000 personnel to safeguard the coming presidential and vice-presidential elections
The spokesman for the Bali police confirmed on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, the extra security steps being put in place, saying the additional personnel would be drawn from all levels of local law enforcement.
Strategies to ensure a smooth presidential election have been made by the police after evaluating security during the just completed legislative elections and identifying a number of sensitive areas
Police have determined the key security areas will be less than during the legislative round of voting when 12 different parties competed. The presidential campaign is being contested by only two multi-party coalitions led by Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa competing against Jakarta governor Joko Widodo and former vice president Jusuf Kalla.
The police will also provide coverage and protection of areas designated for campaign activities and the paraphernalia use in the campaign process in Bali.
The nation-wide presidential campaign period commences on June 4, 2014 and will formally end on July 5, 2014.
The presidential election will take place on July 9, 2014.
