DenPost reports that the Badung regency plans to soon construct a pedestrian underpass connecting two public garden areas near Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport.
The underpass will connect the popular chariot garden near the Tuban Mosque and the garden at the Ngurah Rai Statue roundabout at the entrance to the Mandara toll road.
The estimated open garden areas of 1.2 hectares surround both monuments currently remains inaccessible to many pedestrians who find it too dangerous to navigate the multiple lanes of traffic separating the public from their parks.
According to the Regent of Badung, Anak Agung Gde Agung, the underpass will be equipped with an historical diorama depicting Ngurah Rai’s role in the Indonesian struggle for independence.
The cost of the underpass is still under study as detailed engineering plans for the project are still being prepared.
The regency hopes to include the project in the revised regional budget for 2014.
