The Provincial Government of Bali has issued a regulation for all elements of Bali’s administration to purchases air tickets for official travel directly from the airlines, ending the practice of purchasing official duty air tickets from travel agents.
The change in policy follows a report form the State Audit Board (BPK) auditing expenditures in 2013.
The chief of the Provincial Inspectorate Office, Ketut Teneng, told Radar Bali that his office is now monitoring the situation and has issued orders to all parts of the provincial government that excess funds allocated for tickets be returned to the provincial treasury.
Teneng, the former spokesman for the province, confirmed that funds allocated for visits to the region were overfunded by as much as Rp. 30 million (US$2,600) per trip.
Auditors found variations in prices for the same air ticket from different travel agents. As a result, all provincial government offices must purchase their tickets directly from the airlines.
