The Western Australian and the social media reports that many people planning a holiday in Bali have been caught up in a travel scam.
Consumer Protection in Western Australia have published an alert for West Australians who may have paid for flight and accommodation via an unlicensed company operating as Bali Indulgence.
An Australian woman named Chivonne Betts reportedly operated Bali Indulgence. People who paid Betts or her company for holidays discovered they did not hold flight tickets or hotel bookings in connection with their promised holidays.
Gary Newcombe, the Acting Commissioner for Consumer Protection said: "We understand people who have used Bali Indulgence have been turning up at the airport to find they have no valid ticket for the flight, arriving in Bali to discover the hotel has no record of their booking or discovering the lack of bookings prior to travel."
"Anyone who has booked with Bali Indulgence or Ultimate Indulgence Specialist Chivonne Betts and is yet to travel should confirm their bookings directly with the airline and/or accommodation provider."
"Consumers who have made a booking using a credit card and not received what they paid for should seek a chargeback [transaction reversal] from their card provider.”
People who paid by cash transfer will find it problematic to obtain a refund as no viable contact now exists for Ms. Betts or her travel company.
The Face Book page and Website for Bali Indulgence have both been suspended.
