While magic mushrooms were once opening sold in Kuta, but have been banned with the possession, production or sale the fungi becoming a felony on January 1, 2015.

The two men arrested by police will be charged on Indonesia’s anti-narcotics law of 2009 and subject to imprisonment for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years.

The men told police they have been selling the mushrooms in Kuta since 2013. They purchase the mushrooms for Rp. 200,000 per kilogram and can net a profit of up to Rp. 1 million each day selling “magic mushroom juice.”
