Dr. Peter Agre, a physician and molecular biologist who was a co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2003, will visit Bali’s Udayana University on March 24, 2017.

Agre will participate in the 6th ASEAN “Bridges” Event on Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace facilitated by The International Peace Foundation and Udayana University.

Dr. Agre will speak at the Widya Sabha Building at a hour yet to be announced.

According to Beritabali.com, Dr. Agre’s address will be in the form of a public lecture to which Bali’s Governor has also  been invited to give a keynote address. When told about the visit of Dr. Agre, Pastika said he valued the visit to Bali of a world-class scientist and recipient of the Nobel Prize that also brings honor to Bali’s leading university.

Agre is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor at John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the John Hopkins School of Medicine. In 2003, Agre shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Roderick MacKinnon for “discoveries concerning channels in cell membranes.” Agre is credited with the discovery of aquaporin water channel proteins that move water molecules through cell membranes.

A leader in the field of science diplomacy, Agre served as the president of the American Association for the Advance of Science. Agre has led numerous diplomacy visits to countries while seeking to foster collaboration on peaceful scientific project as a means to reduce world tensions.

Governor Pastika has ordered that Dr. Agre be extended a cordial VIP welcome upon his arrival at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport.

Udayana University will bestow an honorary degree during his coming appearance in Bali.
