(8/5/2017) reports that Bali Deputy Governor and Gubernatorial Candidate for 2018, I Ketut Sudikerta, flew to Jakarta on Thursday, August 3, 2017, to meet President Joko Widodo to discuss key infrastructure projects planned for Bali.

Meeting with the Presidential Office until 11:00 pm, the discussions focused on progressing six infrastructure projects linked to the major International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank meeting set for Bali in October 2018.

The six Bali projects prioritized by Jakarta are:

  • The Development of a new international airport in North Bali.
  • The development of a tourism industry in West Buleleng (North Bali).
  • The construction of an international sports stadium in South Bali.
  • Construction of a rail system to circumnavigate Bali.
  • Development of Pura Besakih as a key national strategic tourism area
  • The expansion of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport.
In addition, the Jakarta meeting reviewed plans for handling waste disposal and traffic jams in Bali’s South.

Slated for completion before the two-mega projects in October 2018 are the expansion of Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport and steps to reduce or eliminate the massive mountain of trash at TPA Suwung.
