Musically Celebrating Indonesia’s 72nd Anniversary

To celebrate Indonesia’s 72nd anniversary the Padma Resort Legian proudly presents “Rhapsody Nusantara” – a dinner concert showcasing the internationally acclaimed Indonesian composer-pianist Ananda Sukarlan and Indonesian soprano Mariska Setiawan on Thursday, August 17, 2017.

Ananda Sukarlan

Born in Indonesia, Ananda Sukarlan is the only Indonesian musician listed in “2000 outstanding musicians of the 20th century" and "The International Who's Who in Music" published by Cambridge.

After graduating high school in Jakarta, he arrived in Europe at age 17 where he attended and graduated summa cum laude in 1993 from the Royal Conservatory in Den Haag, He has earned distinction at a number of international music competitions. Based in Spain, Sukarlan is much sought after as a soloist and as a performer with leading orchestras and ensembles across Europe.

Ananda Sukarlan performed with the  in 2000 marking the re-opening of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Portugal.

He has more than 14 CD recordings to his credit including the complete piano works of Santiago Lanchares, David del Puerto, Jesus Rueda, Toru Takemitsu, Peter Sculthorpe, Amir Pasaribu, Trisutji Kamal, Theo Loevendie and his own compositions.

He has created extensive orchestral compositions, music for ballets, operas, music for ensembles and piano compositions have been performed internationally

Sukarlan is a founding member of Musica Presente and Yayasan Musik Sastra Indonesia.

Mariska Setiawan

From Surabaya, East Java, Mariska has participated in master classes for voice both in Indonesia and abroad, most notably with Stella Zhou, Professor Renate Faltin and Ildiko Raimondi from Hochschule für Music Hanns Eisler (Berlin) and the Mozarteum (Salzburg).

A regular collaborator with Ananda Sukarlan, she has performed both his operetic and vocal works.

She has recorded two albums, including An Essay on Love performed at the request of former-Indonesian president Professor B.J. Habibe in memory of his late wife, Hj. Ainun.

The Concert

The Independence Day concert-dinner - 'Rhapsody Nusantara' commences at 6:00 pm at the poolside of the Tekai Japanese Restaurant with an array of outstanding Indonesian dishes to mark “Hari Merdeka” that will include Bebek Betutu, Beef Rendang, Cumi Sambal Matah, Ikan Woku Manado and kambing guling – to name but a few of the dishes on offer.

This special musical tribute to the Nation costs only Rp. 418,000 per person with a 50% discount for children under 50%.
