Bali on Its Way to 6 Million Foreign Visits for 2017

Bali by the Numbers: Foreign Tourist Arrivals to Bali Up 23.76% Hitting 2.8 million for January-June 2017.

A total of 504,141 foreign tourists arrived in Bali in June 2017 with only 524 from this total arriving by cruise vessel and the remainder via Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport.

Month on Month for June, arrivals increased 24.22% when compared to the same month in 2016.

Total foreign arrivals over the first six months of 2017 totaled 2,811,289 – an increase of 23.76% as compared to the first half of 2016.

Data from the Provincial Statistic Office reveals that starred hotels enjoyed an average occupancy of 66.72% with the average length of stay in starred hotels calculated at only 3.04 days. Meanwhile, average occupancy at the non-starred hotels in June was 36.69% with an average length of stay in non-starred hotels was 2.72 days.

Projecting Total Arrivals for 2017

If Bali sustains its current growth rate in foreign arrivals of 24.22% through the end of the year, Bali will end the year with just over 6 million foreign arrivals.

Mainland Chinese (PRC) tourists to Bali now own a 26.25% market share of all foreign arrivals with 737,852 arrivals January-June 2017. Month on month PRC arrivals for June increased 56.11% and 59.02% for arrivals over the first six months of the year.

The second most significant group of Bali foreign arrivals during the first half of 2017 is the Australians, numbering 536,738 representing a market share of 19.09%. Month-on-month Australian arrivals declined 5.72% when compared to June 2016 but for the first six months of the year, Australian arrivals declined 0.01%.

In third place, India tourists totaled 129,727 for January – June 2017 for a 4.61% market share. Month on month for June, Indian arrivals increased 69.94% and increased 39.90% during the first six months of the year.

Fourth place is now held by U.K. visitors with 113,413 for the first six months of the year and increase15.36% over 2015.

Fifth goes to the Japanese 112,065. Month on month UK visitors increased 15.79% in June and 2.41% over the entire first six months of 2017.

In sixth place are people from the USA with 98,669, increasing 26.54% month-on-month and seventh to South Korean with 87,148 arrivals.
