The Bali Zoo located in Singapadu, Gianyar, has been named as Indonesia’s Best Conservation Organization for 2017 for success in breeding and releasing endangered species back into the wild.

Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, Agung Santosa, from The Bali Zoo said: “The achievement (of the award) represents the manifestation of the hard work and commitment of the entire Zoo team who share a love of all our animals."

The award was presented to the Bali Zoo by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution and the Minister for the Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya at a ceremony marking National Natural Conservation Day at the Baluran National Park in Situbundo on Thursday, August 10, 2017.

Santosa told the press that among the animals successfully bread by The Bali Zoo includes the Silvery Gibbon (Owa Jawa), Bali Starling (Jalak Bali), binturong, and the Benggala Tiger.

The Bali Zoo that covers 10 hectares has also participated in the release back into nature of 10 porcupines in the Tabanan Regency of Bali, turtles onto the beach of Saba in Gianyar, and deer back into the West Bali National Park.

With the Bali Zoo being acknowledged as the Nation’s best conservation agency, the popular Bali destination has pledged to remain steadfast to its motto of “Love, Conserve and Share” as the park propagate and releases even more endangered species back into the wild.

The Bali Zoo is located in Singapadu, Sukawati in Gianyar and is home to some 500 animals originating from Africa, Asia, India, and Indonesia.

A major project underway at the Bali Zoo is the development of “Kampung Sumatra” – a permanent exhibit housing an animal collection from the Indonesian Island of Sumatra that includes Sumatran Tigers and  the endangered Sumatran elephant.
