Bali’s Governor Made Mangku Pastika is the recipient of a “gift” from the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces General Gatot Nurmantyo: A Pindad 3 7.65 caliber pistol capable of firing 20 rounds.

The Head of Bali’s Udayana Military Command, Major General Komaruddin Simanjuntak, presented the weapon to Governor Pastika on behalf of General Nurmantyo on Thursday, August 10, 2017

As reported by NusaBali, the pistol was given to the Governor for self-defense purposes in the course of carrying out his official duties as Bali’s Chief Executive.

During the ceremony at the Udayana Command Headquarters, the Governors of East Nusa Tenggara Frans Lebu Raya and the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara Muhammad Zain Majdi also received gidts of personal side arms.

Major General Simanjuntak said the gift of the pistols to 3 Governors was done on the orders of the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces and represented the respect and appreciation held for the 3 provincial heads who recently attended military training exercises on Natuna Island.

Indonesian law provides that the possession of a pistol for personal protection is given to certain government officials under a 1960 regulation on weaponry. Under the law, specific groups of who are allowed to carry weapons in Indonesia:

  • Members of PERBAKIN (The Indonesian Association for Target Practice and Hunting)

Governor Pastika said he was proud and honored to be allowed to follow military exercises held in May 2017 on Natuna Island and that the gift of the pistol gave momentum to his desire to enhance national defense and express his deep love of Country.

Pastika said specific rules control who can own and carry a weapon in Indonesia. As a graduate of the Indonesian Police Academy in 1974 and a ranking officer in the National Police, Patika  is well trained and experienced in the use of weapons.
