Four young men have been sentenced in the brutal stabbing death of a military cadet, Prada Yanuar Setiawan (20), in South Bali that occurred on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

The stiffest sentence of four years in prison was given to Dewa Komang Derdy Anthoni (shown) - the 16-year-old son of a PDIP member of the Bali Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD), Dewa Nyoman Rai Adi.

Three other young men, identified only by initials, who participated in the street fight were given lighter sentences. CI's(16) sentence of 3.5 years was comprised of 1.5 years in jail for acting as an accomplice in attacking the dead soldier and a further 2 years of prison for injuring Setiawan’s friend, Muhamad Jauhari.

KCA (16) and KTS (17) were found guilty of beating Muhamad Jauhari and given 9-month sentence.

The sentences handed down by the Court were less than that sought by State Prosecutors who demanded 5.5 years of imprisonment for Dewa Komang Derdy Anthoni, 5 years across two criminal counts for CI, and 1 year prison each for KCA and KTS.

Dewa Komang Derdy Anthoni, as a minor, will be moved from Bali’s Kerobokan Prison to a special detention facility for children in Karangasem.

Both the prosecutors and the 4 sentenced to prison have a limited window of time to appeal the sentence handed down by the court.

As reported by NusaBali, lawmaker Dewa Rai did not attend the sentencing of his murderous son with the 16-year-old accompanied only by an older brother at the proceeding.. Press reports say members of the Armed Forces and the Udayana Military Command attended the Court in a case that cost the life of a fellow-soldier.

The Court heard how Dewa Komang Derdy Anthoni together with 7 friends – all members of the “Remang Boy Gang” spent the night of Saturday, July 8, 2017, drinking at a bar in Kuta before adjourning to other bars after midnight.

Drunk and driving badly on Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai in Jimbaran, the members of the Gang became indignant when scolded by Setiawan for weaving in and out of traffic. The gang drove ahead and lay in wait to launch a retaliatory physical attack at the three-way intersection for Taman Griya in Jimbaran. They then pursued Prada Yanuar and his friends to a location in front of the Sabargita Bus Halte in Jimbaran.

In the resulting altercation, Anthoni used a knife he was carrying to fatally stab Yanuar.

In a final act of drunken anger, CI reportedly urinated onto the face of the fatally injured young soldier before departing the scene.
