Two Keliki Village, Tegalalang, Gianyar residents are now waiting anti-viral treatment for rabies after being attacked by a dog confirmed positive for the disease.

I Made Murjana (47) and his sister, Ni Ketut Jani (43) were bitten by their neighbor's pet on the morning of Saturday, August 5, 2017.

NusaBali reports that Ni Ketut Jani was bitten in her yard at 7:00 am by a dog owned by a neighbor, I Ketut Punduh.

The dog reportedly went berserk and attacked without any provocation Ni Ketut Janu who was sweeping her yard when the dog bit her in the left calf and left hand. The woman screamed for assistance, waking her entire household in the process. Her elder brother managed to shoo the animal out of the yard.

Murjana went next door to his neighbor, I Ketut Punduh, to inform him that his pet was on the rampage. However, when Murjana arrived at the entrance of his neighbor’s house the crazed dog lay in wait and leaped T Maurjana inflicting bites onto the man’s nose and hand. “I tried to grab the dog by the neck, without success,” explained Murjana who works as an egg vendor.

The neighbor and owner of the dog, Ketut Punduh, immediately took responsibility for the attack and brought the two dog-bite victims for medical treatment and gave his neighbors Rp. 1 million as compensation for further medical costs.

Maujana said he tried to return the money, but his neighbor Ketut Punduh and the owner of the dog refused to accept the money.

Punduh’s dog was immediately eliminated by villagers following the attack. When the dog’s brain tissue was clinically examined, it was declared positive for rabies. Member of Gianyar’s Livestock and Animal Health division descended on the Village eliminating 20 free roaming dogs in the Village of Keliki on Monday, August 7, 2017, two days after the attack.

While Ni Ketut Jani has reportedly received anti-rabies serum treatment, but her brother Murjana is reportedly being told by health department officials that there is no further supply of Anti-viral serum available anywhere at this time.
