(9/22/2017) reports that the Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi, East Java will be used as one of the “parking spaces” for parking overnight the VIP aircraft carrying officials attending the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank 2018 in Bali.

Tarmac space for idle aircraft at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport, although recently expanded, is still insufficient for the large number of private jets expected during the WB-IMF meeting.

The plans to park visiting VIP aircraft in Banyuwangi were announced by the Director of Aviation Navigation from the Ministry of Transportation, Yudhi Sari Sitompul.

Yudhi told the press while attending the launch programs for an inauguration of a Garuda flight from Jakarta to Banyuwangi o Friday, September 9, 2017: “Banyuwangi is the airport to be used for parking aircraft used to transport heads of state attending the IMF-WB. I understand that 130 heads of state will attend this event.”

Yudi says work continues to enhance the capacity of Blimbingsari Airport in Banyuwangi, including extending the length of the airport from 2,250-meters to 2,500 meters. Work will also be undertaken to widen the runways from 30-meters to 45-meters. Moreover, teinforcement of the runway will strengthen the pavement classification number to 57.

The new Lombok International Airport will also be used to accommodate aircraft attending the IMF-WB conference scheduled for October 12-14, 2018.

15,000 delegates from 189 countries are expected to attend the Bali conference accompanied by 1,500 members of the international media.
