Indonesia’s Minister of Transportation, Karya Samadi, is projecting that the number of flights handled by Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport will increase by 100 movements a day during the mega-summit of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank to be held in Bali in October 2018.

Quoted by the State News Agency Antara, Samadi said on Saturday, February 3, 2018: “The Density of flights in Bali has been anticipated from the very beginning and we have made preparations to ensure things go smoothly."

The Minister of Transportation said the IMF-WB conference would be held in Bali October 8-14, 2108 with many of the national delegations arriving on private aircraft resulting in an unprecedented number of flight arrivals and departures.

To prepare for the onslaught of additional flights the Airport is in the midst of adding more apron space for aircraft parking, increasing the capacity for parked aircraft from 28 to 35 airplanes.

The Minister has asked scheduled airlines flying to Bali during the period of the conference to use wide-bodied aircraft to increase capacity while minimizing the actual number of flights.

Because of limited parking space on the apron at Bali’s Airport, supplemental parking for delegates private aircraft is being prepared in Surabaya, Jember, Banyuwangi and Lombok – airports all less than one hour’s flying time from Bali.

An estimated 15,000 delegates are expected to visit Bali for IMF-World Bank conference with an additional 2,000 – 3,000 members of the international press corps accompanying the official delegations.
