In every sense, it was a "moving" ceremony. On Friday, April 14, 2006, thousands of followers of the Lord Buddha escoted a gold-plated, 2.7 meter high Buddha Rupam from from Nusa Dua to its new, permanent home at the Vihara Buddha Sakyamuni on Jalan Padang Tegal, in downtown Denpasar.Hari Om Tat Sat
A gift from the government of Thailand to the people of Bali, the serene and magestic statue of the Lord Buddha weighing 1.5 tons, was paraded through the streets, warmly welcomed by local Balinese groups, members of the local Chinese community and many Budddhist devotees. The multi-cultural welcome afforded the statue reflect Bali's deeply entrenched tradition of mutual respect among religious groups living on the island and the strong traces of Mahayana Buddhism evident in Bali's history and the Hindu-Dharma faith as practiced today.
The Vihara Buddha Sakyamuni, the new home of the Golden Buddha, is open to the public on a daily basis.
