The Denpasar traffic police are enhancing their community policing efforts via the introduction into service of three specially equipped "patrol" golf carts to be used in three prime locations: Lapangan Puputan in downtown Denpasar; Niti Mandala in Renon; and along Sanur Beach.
In launching the electric-powered patrol vehicle, a police spokesperson told the Indonesian-language DenPost: "the main aim (of the program) is to foster interaction and communication with the public. Moreover, we want the public to feel a direct police presence."
The battery-powered vehicles are intended to provide a high-profile presence for officers on day-time patrol in the designated areas allowing officers to aid traffic flows through better parking and traffic control.
"Hopefully, our efforts will receive a positive response form the general public," added the police spokesman.
