Metro TV reports that Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik has called on the government to allocate € 6 per targeted foreign visitor in 2008 for tourism promotion or the equivalent of € 42 Million (approximately US$57.3 million).
Speaking in Jakarta on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, the Minister proclaimed a target of 7 million foreign visitors to Indonesia for 2008, a year his Department has proclaimed as Visit Indonesia Year.
Encouraged by an overall growth rate of 12% nationwide in tourist visitors, the Minister reported that around 5,000 visitors are arriving each day in Bali, a figure much higher than last year. Because of this, he remains confident that a target of 6 million visitors can be achieved in the current year.
