Via a joint decree from Indonesia's Minister of Religion, Minister of Manpower, and Minister for Administrative Reforms October 12 – 19 have been declared "shared holidays" – an extended period when non-essential services government offices will close and many business will operate reduced schedules.
Lebaran or Idul Fitri will take place on October 13-14, 2007.
The extended holiday period guarantee that nation-wide all modes of sea, land and air transportation will be under tremendous strain and hotels in Bali booked to overflowing.
Hotels across the island are reporting fully-booked situations.
Despite the holiday, there be little leave for Indonesian police and security officials who will be on full deployment throughout the period manning special command posts across the island to maintain the peace and keep the traffic flowing. Security and surveillance at the Ngurah Rai International Airport and all seaports on Bali will be on high alert status.
