Three Sets of Candidates Vie for Bali's Top Job with Campaigning to Get Underway on June 22, 2008.

The Local Election Commission (KPUD) has certified three sets of candidates as eligible to vie for the job of Governor and Vice-Governor of Bali by voters on July 9, 2008.
According to campaign rules, the active campaigning for the #1 and #2 jobs in Bali can only commence on June 22, 2008 for a fourteen-day period leading up to polling day. The rules also stipulate that campaigning must come to a complete halt on July 6, 2008 allowing a three day "cooling off" period before voters finally go to the poling booths.
The Chairman of the Working Group for the Gubernatorial Election, Lanang Putra Perbawa, told the press on Saturday, May 17th that "the ten days for campaigning will be further subdivided into three sections, allowing each set of candidates their own day for campaigning."
The three candidates certified by the election commission are:
Cok Budhi Suryawan and Suweta representing the Golkar Party
Made Mangku Pastika and Cok Puspayoga representing the People Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP)
Winasa and Alit Putra representing a coalition of various parties.
The campaign for governor begins officially on June 22, 2008 when the candidates are scheduled to present their "vision and mission" before the Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD-Bali). This will be followed by a cultural parade participated in by all contestants the afternoon of the same day. Candidates will also have two of their 14-day campaign period designated for public debate
