On Friday, September 19, 2008, hotel employees across Bali joined an estimated 35 million volunteers from more than 100 countries spending that weekend to help "clean up and conserve local environments" in a whole range of activities ranging from waste removal, tree planting and energy conservation projects
Organized under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the "Clean up the World Weekend" is held each year on the 3rd weekend of September.
Coordinated through the Bali Hotel Association (BHA) environmental committee, activities in Bali saw hotel staffs descend on local beaches and roadsides to clean up the Island.
Representatives of Balidiscovery.com joined a large group of employees from the Conrad Bali Resort and Spa on a clean-up of Tanjung Benoa beach, accompanied by Bobby McGee, a much-spoiled Labrador Retriever owned by Bali Update's Editor.
As shown in some of the pictures shown on balidiscovery.com, "Bobby" always insists on bringing his own set of brooms and a waste basket whenever he joins local community clean up activities.
Now, if we could only teach him how to do dishes.
