BeritaBali.com quotes the Chief of the Bali Tourism Authority, Gede Nurjaya, as urging travel agents in Bali to work to spread their distribution of visitors in a more even and equitable manner. This recommendation from Bali's top tourism official follows reports of over-booking of hotel in the southern areas of the island, such as Nusa Dua, Kuta and Sanur.
Nurjaya sees the booking of hotels in North and East Bali as a ready solution to overcrowding of the main tourist areas and a means to achieve a more equitable distribution of the economic benefits of tourism.
Nurjaya also called on Bali's tour and travel agents to not offer other destinations, bearing in mind that tickets to Bali are already difficult to obtain. Explained Nurjaya: "Bali's concept is 'Bali and Beyond' so, please, fulfill orders for those wanting to visit Lombok and Yogya. But for Bali itself, sell Buleleng and Karangasem."
Remarking on the current heavily booked situation in Bali caused by the Lebaran holiday, Nurjaya said the current "overbooking" situation was a direct result of Bali's peak season.
Domestic Tourism Up 23%
Nurjaya said that the total number of domestic tourist to Bali for the period January-October 2008 has hit 3 million, an increase of 23% when compared to the same period last year. International arrivals are also booming, with an estimated average of 6,000 foreign visitors passing through Bali's Ngurah Rai airport every day.
