As reported on balidiscovery.com [See: Legal Challenge to Bali's New Governor], following his defeat in the recent governor's election the Regent (Bupati) of Jembrana, I Gede Winasa, initiated a legal action against Bali's newly elected governor Made Mangku Pastika challenging his electoral victory. Winasa's challenge before the courts initially sought to have Pastika’s victory set aside, claiming the former Bali police chief had violated election laws by failing to officially resign from the police force prior to commencing his gubernatorial race.
Winasa, who is the Buparti of Jembrana, has apparently now reconsidered the wisdom of pursuing a legal action against the governor who also now serves as his boss.
During a court session held in Jakarta in late October, Winasa's legal team formally withdrew their legal complaint. Lawyers said that their client wished to end the court proceeding citing the "conducive" political climate now prevailing in Bali as Winasa's reason for withdrawing from the legal fray.
