Governor Pastika Schedules 6,000 Free Clinics for 500 Local Communities in 2009.
Bali's Governor Made Mangku Pastika has promised to introduce a number of programs in 2009 designed to improve the health of the people of Bali. Working through a coordinated team for health drawn from various agencies, 500 of 706 villages and local communities are targeted to receive free health services in 2009.
In order to provide effective coverage to 500 villages and communities over the course of one year, a total of 25 medical teams will have to conduct a total of 6,000 free-clinics.
The Governor told the press that included within his health plan are free eye operations for 1,000 people afflicted by cataracts performed by surgeons from the Indra Hospital. The operations will be performed in situ using a fully equipped mobile eye surgery unit.
Governor Pastika pointed to the strong response to free clinics conducted in remote villages that draw between 200-300 patients as testifying to the great demand for additional medical services in the remote regions of the island of Bali.
