Nikko Bali Resort & Spa hosted a gala appreciation evening for members of the island's tourism trade on Friday, December 12, 2008, in the hotel's ballroom.
Following welcoming cocktails on the verandah where guests were welcomed by staff dressed in Elegant Resort Blue costumes. Foreshadowing darker events ahead, the Graha Sawangan Ballroom which had been literally "wrapped" for the event was officially opened by Nikko's general manager, Jean-Charles Le Coz, who wielded a large knife to open the wrapping paper that ensconced the entrance.
Within, the ballroom had been transformed with each corner of the room following a theme reflecting different aspects of the hotel's operations. As such, there were areas dedicated to demonstrating the services provided at the Hotel's Nikko Club, Mandara Spa and the special wedding programs offered by the hotel.
Dominating the ballroom was a professional state-of-the-art performance stage surrounded by two phalanxes of formal seating. Cocktails and canapés were served to seated guests who were entertained throughout the evening by top notch local and national acts. Among the attractions presented were a bridal fashion show; music by the Circle Band and a lively performance by the three divas who comprise the well known recording trio Molucca.
A chilling pause in an otherwise action-packed night was provided by the personable and entertaining illusionist Damien Aditya, who mesmerized guests with his magic tricks. Sadly, due to the spectacular failure of one of his illusions that resulted in the wounding with a knife of a volunteer from the audience, guests may have inadvertently witnessed the premature end to the brilliant career for the talented young performer.
