Borobudur: In Stillness I Found Peace

An Exhibition of Watercolors by Rudolf G. Usman at the St. Regis Bali Resort December 20, 2008 – January 1, 2009.

(12/15/2008)

St. Regis Bali Resort presents a Exhibition of paintings by Rudolf G. Usman. Hosted by the Resort in conjunction with the launch his book entitled Borobudur: In the Stillness I Found Peace, Usman will be presenting his latest collection of watercolors in the Astor Ballroom from December 20, 2008 until January 1, 2009, daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m..

Born in Padang, West Sumatra in 1953, Usman's gained voice in 1974 when he enrolled in the Institute of Fine Art, Jakarta and developed further as he traveled through Asia, Europe and the U.S.A. in search of artistic inspiration.

Usman has held numerous solo and group exhibitions of his work in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, the Netherlands and the U.S.A. In 1996, he received a certificate of recognition from the Jiangsu Province Watercolor Research Society in China. Additional accolades include an award for "Outstanding Contributions to the Advancement of Indonesian Watercolors" from IBC, Cambridge, England in 1999.

Strongly committed to artistic experimentation and innovation, an exhibition in Japan in 1997 combined the publication of a book on watercolor marking a new direction in his work. Usman began painting with mixed media, reflecting nuances that were different from what watercolor normally convey. During this period, he also employed acrylic, collage, gold sheets, mirror, and coins - creating works rich in symbolism.

Then, in 2007, Usman explored his non-traditional approach presenting paintings on large-sized canvases, at the Jakarta National Museum. Using mixed media techniques and digital pictures, he discovered new areas of expression resulting in large-sized contemporary paintings.

Rudolf Usman's latest works are on display from December 20, 2008 until January 1, 2009 at the St. Regis Resort Bali daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m..
