Passing Foul Gas Lands One Man in Hospital and Another in Jail in Bali.

39 year-old Made Suyasa, a citizen of Banjar Kaja Kangin in the village of Kubutambahan in Buleleng Regency, is now in police custody following his arrest on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, after being charged with stabbing a friend with a knife in Denpasar.

According to police reports, Made Suyasa and his friend I Kadek Lespi Arjawa were both employed at a project North Denpasar where they shared a a shed for their personal accommodation.

One night last week, Made Suyasa passed gas sufficiently odiferous to rouse Arjawa and cause him to rush outdoors in desperate need of fresh air. When Arjawa returned to the sleeping area where he reportedly rebuked his room mate by thowing small stones and calling Suyasa the equivalent of a "dirty stinker" in Balinese, or at least words to that effect.

Deflated and otherwise offended at being repimanded by a junior colleague, Suyasa disappeared in a "puff" only to return moments later wielding a kitchen knife with which he stabbed Arjawa twice in the back.

It was Just a Fart

Officer Ida Bagus Mantra of the West Denpasar police precinct who investigated the attack bemoaned the criminal assault, saying, "the fight was really about nothing, really . . . just a fart.”

While Arjawa continues to recover in a local hospital from his stab wounds and a suspected mild case of gas asphyxiation, Suyasa is being held in in an isolation cell by the Bali police, reportedly at the request of his fellow detainees.
