Details Emerge on Simpang Siur Flyover for Bali
Bali Flyover Will Connect Tukad Badung Estuary and Airport Perimeter, Traveling Over Mangrove Forest.
(7/10/2010)
Kompas.com confirms that "detailed engineering design" are being completed that will allow Jakarta to issue final approval for a flyover highway at the Simpang Siur intersection in Bali targeted for completion in 2012.
The Badung Regency government is coordinating the Directorate General Bina Marga at the Ministry of Public Works to take the necessary steps for the project to proceed.
The flyover will channel traffic from Bali's south via a flyover that rises from the Badung river estuary, east of the Bali Galleria Mall, passing over the southern edge of the local mangrove forest before descending near the eastern end of the Ngurah Rai airport.
Developers insist that the new highway will not damage the mangrove forest because of the new road's elevation above the environmentally sensitive area.
