Hospitality, care and appreciation begins at home.
In this spirit, the InterContinental Bali Resort recent launched a number of activities to express mutual admiration among members of their Bali team. From chefs to concierges, housekeeping to Resort management, InterContinental Bali Resort went out of its ways to include every one of the 904 people who work at the resort in their ”Celebrate Service Week."
The initiative was driven by the
InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) and the hotels owners' association with the intention of giving something back to the people who work tirelessly every day to keep the Resort's guests happy.
"Celebrate Service Week" ran from July 26-30, 2010, and was part of similar activities held around the world celebrating the 330,000 people who work across in 4,400 hotels, including the
InterContinental Bali Resort. The week-long schedule of activities, kicked off with members of the management team personally welcoming staff with refreshments as they arrived for duty on Monday morning. Maintaining the "top-down" display of affection and appreciation, managers also worked that day in the staff canteen helping to serve meals during the busy lunch period.
"Celebrate Service Week" at the Bali hotel coincided with the Resort's annual temple festival, observed via a series of traditional ceremonial rituals. General Manager, Phil Riley, attended these important religious rites; joining in communal prayer with the Hindu members of staff.
Other activities included a motorbike wash where management team members cleaned staff vehicles in the parking area. Each department at the Resort also hosted individual events that included interactive quizzes with prizes including accommodation, dinner and spa vouchers that will enable staff members to experience the Resort's facilities.
The highlight of the week was a "Team party" held in conjunction with employees from the
InterContinental's sister hotel - the
Holiday Inn Resort Baruna Bali. In an afternoon of fun games and conviviality, team members enjoyed outside catering featuring suckling roast pig and other Balinese culinary delicacies.
Phil Riley, General Manager of
InterContinental Bali Resort said: "Every day the team here at the Resort do so much to make our Resort a place guests will want to come back to. 'Celebrate Service Week' was our chance to join forces with all the other InterContinental hotels around the world to show our people just how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication."
The
InterContinental family encompasses hundreds of thousands of people working in
Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites, Candlewood Suites and
Hotel Indigo hotels. This is a growing family with 60,000 new jobs anticipated to be created over the coming five years with the opening of 1,300 new hotels under the company's range of hospitality brands.
