Dates have been announced for the Tour d' Indonesie for 2010 – a match of strength and endurance as international bicyclists travel the distance between Indonesia's capital of Jakarta and Bali.

Seeking to enhance safety over the heavily traveled roads of Java and Bali – two of the world's most populous islands – the organizers have declared their intent to create a shorter race with shorter daily legs than in years past.

The Indonesian Cycling Union (ISSI) announced that the race will begin in Jakarta on October 24, 2010 and finish in Bali on November 4, 2010. The race will be run in 9 stages over a total course of 1,172 kilometers. Last years race was comprised of 11 stages over a longer 1,513 kilometer course.

The ISSI chairman, Phanny Tanjung, announced the shorter course, saying: "We've decided to cut down the distance because of safety concerns, as we don't want the cyclists to be trapped in traffic jams. However, we'll introduce a new route that will give a new set of challenges and experiences for the riders."

This year's race will trace Java's southern coast while last years course traveled the northern route between Jakarta and Bali.

Speedy Telkom will return as sponsor of the event for the third consecutive year.

While the value of the sponsorship was undisclosed, it is known that a cash prize of US$100,000 will be on offer.

Last year's race and the 2008 event were both won by the Tabriz Petrochemical Team of Iran. Tabriz rider Ghader Mizbani won the individual best classification in 2008 while fellow Iranian Mehdi Sohrabi won in 2009.
