Bali is a frequent winner in prestigious polls seeking to name the best topical island, favorite holiday destination, finest spas and the world's best resort hotels. The latest feather in Bali's hat has been bestowed by Smart Asia Travel - an online travel website.
The editor-in-chief of Smart Travel Asia, Vinjay Verghese, came to Bali in September to present an award plaque for Bali as the "second best" Holiday Destination in Asia, as tallied amongst their readers. Kerala, India managed to edge out Bali from the coveted number one post.
Accepting the award on behalf of Bali, was Jean-Charles Le Coz, chairman of Bali Hotels Association.
In accepting the award, Le Coz said: "BHA is honored to receive the award given by discerning travelers. It is evidence that travelers around the world appreciate the culture and genuineness of Balinese people. These appreciations motivates all of us to work even harder and cooperate even tighter to reach new heights in Bali's tourism."
According to the publisher, those participating in the survey took an average pf 13.56 air trip over the past 12 months and had an average household income of US$164,501.
The "Best in Travel" Poll is now in its sixth year with votes based on actual travel experience, word-of-mouth and perceptions drawn from public relations initiatives and advertising.
The poll was conducted over the months of May-July with 60% of the respondents based in Asia. The remaining participants casting their votes were split evenly between Europe and the North America.
The Highlights from the latest [Smart Travel Asia Poll Results]:
• Top 10 Holiday Destinations in Asia - Bali ranked 2 (down from first place in the 2009 poll). Kerala India won top honors at #1, up from third place last year.
• Top 20 Spa Hotels & Resorts in Asia - 1st place went to Conrad Maldives who retained the top spot from last year. Bali resorts dominated the remaining places among the top 25 properties. 3rd place went to [Bulgari Hotel & Resorts, Bali]. 4th place went to [Four Seasons Resort at Jimbaran Bay, Bali]. 6th place was [Ayana Resort and Spa, Bali]. 9th place was awarded to [Grand Hyatt Bali]. 11th place went to [Royal Pita Maha, Ubud]. 19th place to [Como Shambhala Estate]. And. 21st place to [Hotel Tugu, Bali].
• Top 25 Leisure Hotels & Resorts - Bali again had a disproportionately large representation in this category where the Amanpuri Resort in Phuket, Thailand won top honors. 4th place came to Bali and the [Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, Bali]. 5th place to [The Legian, Bali] tied with [Grand Hyatt Bali]. Two Aman properties in Bali tied for 7th place: [Amandari] and [Amankila]. Another Aman hotel ranked 12th in the poll [Amannusa]. 16th went to [Ayana Resort and Spa, Bali]. 19th place to [InterContinental Bali Resort]. 21st position in the top 25 to [The Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah, Ubud]. 23rd to [Alila Ubud]. And, 25th place to [The Oberoi, Bali].
• Top 25 Conference Hotels in Asia - The Fullerton, Singapore won top honors. In Bali 21st in the list was [Ayana Resort and Spa, Bali] followed by [Conrad Bali Resort and Spa] at 25th.
