Bali is a frequent winner in prestigious polls seeking to name the best topical island, favorite holiday destination, finest spas and the world's best resort hotels. The latest feather in Bali's hat has been bestowed by Smart Asia Travel - an online travel website.

The editor-in-chief of Smart Travel Asia, Vinjay Verghese, came to Bali in September to present an award plaque for Bali as the "second best" Holiday Destination in Asia, as tallied amongst their readers. Kerala, India managed to edge out Bali from the coveted number one post.

Accepting the award on behalf of Bali, was Jean-Charles Le Coz, chairman of Bali Hotels Association.

In accepting the award, Le Coz said: "BHA is honored to receive the award given by discerning travelers. It is evidence that travelers around the world appreciate the culture and genuineness of Balinese people. These appreciations motivates all of us to work even harder and cooperate even tighter to reach new heights in Bali's tourism."

According to the publisher, those participating in the survey took an average pf 13.56 air trip over the past 12 months and had an average household income of US$164,501.

The "Best in Travel" Poll is now in its sixth year with votes based on actual travel experience, word-of-mouth and perceptions drawn from public relations initiatives and advertising.

The poll was conducted over the months of May-July with 60% of the respondents based in Asia. The remaining participants casting their votes were split evenly between Europe and the North America.
