Tuesday, October 5, 2010, marked the 65th anniversary of Indonesian Armed Forces Day which was celebrated in Bali at the Puputan Field in downtown Denpasar.
The parading of the colors was attended by all branches of the national military and presided over by the Commander of the Udayana IX Military District, Major General Rachmat Budiyanto, and included the presentation of awards to outstanding military personnel and the ceremonial cutting and sharing of a tradition "nasi tumpeng" between the Commander and his troops.
Keeping Bali and the Nation Safe
General Budiyanto told the assembled troops and private citizens attending the celebrations that Indonesia's military remains on guard and extra vigilant in protecting Bali's ongoing development.
On the same occasion, General Budiyanto read prepared remarks from Indonesia's Head of the Armed Forces, Admiral Agus Suhartono.
Admiral Suhartono reminded his troops of threats to security coming from many quarters such as global warming, pollution, health pandemics, financial crisis, cyber crime and potential attack by foreign military forces. Suhartono lists 8 main areas of threat to Indonesia's national security in his prepared remarks quoted by the Bali Post:
1. Security in the Malacca Straits
2. Terrorism
3. Separatism
4. Infringements on national borders
5. Natural Disasters
6. Horizontal conflicts
7. Illegal activities
8. Energy shortages
