Indonesia's Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, has stated he remains optimistic that national tourism arrivals for 2010 will surpass the declared target of 7 million. "I an convinced and optimistic that the target of 7 million foreign tourists will not only be achieved but also surpassed," said Wacik and quoted in Bisnis Bali.
The Culture and Tourism Minister the monthly growth in tourism arrivals will remain at between 12-13%. This average rate of growth is well above the average growth of 9 % achieved in 2009.
"Until the end of the year the worst scenario is a growth rate of 10%, and if we achieve 10% growth over last year we will be above 7 million visitors," Wacik explained.
The Minister is also counting on a year end surge in visitors over the holiday season.
Wacik underlined that his department will not stop promoting Indonesian tourism in a number of countries as well as continue to conduct an international advertising campaign. At the same time, his office is seeking inter-departmental cooperation to ease the visa process for Indonesian visitors.
The Indonesian Bureau of Statistics (BPS) record 4,625,550 visitors during the period January-August, an increase of 12.12% over the same 8 months in 2009.
