Indonesia has earned itself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by roasting 101,010 sticks of the local delicacy satay on 10/10/10.

The massive BBQ party was held at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) park in Bali with some 1,800 people helping to prepare and cook the skewers of marinated meats.

According to, the event displaced Brunei Darussalam as the record holder for a satay event, far surpassing the Sultanate's record of 75,000 satay sticks.

And, obviously, the inspiration for cooking 101,010 sticks came from the date on which it was held: October 10, 2010.

Adding more merriment and an unique Indonesian flair to the event was the fact that all of the 1,800 team preparing the satay sticks wore colorful Batik shirts.

Lucia Sinigagliesi, a representative of the Guinness Book of World Records said, "I wish to congratulate Indonesia who have succeeded in breaking the record for preparing the greatest number of satay in a unique way; involving many people proud of their national cuisine, wearing the clothing of their country and introducing all this to the world."

To prepare 101,010 sticks of satay 1.8 tons of beef was consumed. Once the cooking feat was complete the sticks of savory meats were shared with hundreds of Bali satay vendors and the people living in the areas surrounding GWK.
