The provincial government of Bali plans to build an international standard hospital with construction scheduled to begin in 2011. Rp. 100 billion (US$10.9 million) has been allocated from the provincial budget for the project.
As reported by Beritabali.com, governor Pastika told the press on November 23, 2010, that the international standard hospital would improve health services on the island and help reduce the need for people to seek medical care abroad. Said the governor: "Why not create an international standard hospital in Bali so the people of Indonesia can take a holiday in Bali while at the same time undergoing a medical examination?"
The governor was confident that the international standard health facility he envisages can both improve health services to the people of Bali while the same time providing health services to visiting tourists.
