A 49-year-old Irish expatriate Frank Murray is dead after falling over 100 meters from the limestone cliffs of Pura Uluwatu in South Bali onto the jagged rocks of the shoreline below.
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 2, 2010, at around 9:00 am and was witnessed by a group of South Korean tourists visiting the sacred temple who reported seeing the man place his hand phone and remove the ceremonial sash worn by all visitors to the site before apparently leaping to his death.
Search and rescue officials needed 3 hours to descend to the cliff's base and recover Murray's lifeless body.
NusaBali states that Murray owned several villas in the Kuta and Canggu area. An employee at one of the man's villas told police that Murray left the villa at 7:30 am, saying he saw no signs that his employer intended to end his life.
The man's body was removed to the morgue of the Sanglah General Hospital for to await instructions on the disposition of his remains. While an external examination of Murray's body as been performed, doctors are awaiting a formal request from the police or the dead man's family before carrying out a complete autopsy.
